Not only can not drinking decrease your stress hormones that make fat harder to burn, not drinking cuts carbohydrates and calories and makes you more likely to exercise. If you think about it, drinking alcohol makes it less likely that you will exercise. Mood gets better without alcohol
Lots of people experienced an improvement in their mood after reducing their drinking. This makes perfect sense, as alcohol is a depressant that can often worsen underlying issues like depression and anxiety.
You are not alone if you don’t identify with the term sober, but don’t let that hold you back from quitting drinking. As midlife women, we know that anything worth having takes time to achieve. One of the biggest fears we have when we quit drinking is failure.
If you’re not ready to go cold turkey, then start by reducing the amount of alcohol you drink each day. Try replacing alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic drinks, such as water, juice or soda. We come together now to be real with ourselves about why alcohol free lifestyle we’re drinking. When I started drinking socially at 14, it is not why I was still drinking in my late 30’s and 40’s. At forty-five, when I quit, I was doing a lot of couch drinking and not remembering the Lifetime movie I watched the next day.
It may seem impossible to avoid alcohol if you’re a regular drinker, but it’s not that hard. Once you’ve become sober and stayed sober for a while, an alcohol-free lifestyle makes life worth living and creates genuine happiness. People who quit smoking don’t sit around for the rest of their lives saying, Yeah, I was addicted to cigarettes, and I quit but I’m a nicotine Holic or whatever, they just, they’re like, yeah, I used to smoke a pack a day, and I quit. And everybody’s like, good, Anya, that shit, that it’ll kill you. Like, way to go, man, that that must have been hard. The country singer-songwriter Margo Price published an essay in GQ in March 2021 about her decision to quit drinking after one too many stressors caused by the pandemic, including her canceled tours.
